Appearing: Sunday 2017
Sylvia Bishop spent her entire childhood reading story books, dreaming up stories and Pretending. Sylvia graduated from Oxford and now likes improvising comedy as one half of the duo Peablossom Cabaret which allows her make up stories for at least 30% of her waking hours. She writes her stories down, preferably by lamplight with tea. She says she only ever really writes the bad ones; the good ones usually write themselves without warning, often when she is planning to go to bed. We love her book Erica's Elephant and her latest story for young readers The Bookshop Girl is really special to us, try and guess why!
Ashley King is an illustrator extraordinaire. He is passionate about the paintings he creates but also loves doodles, scribbles, coffee and cake. He studied at Coventry and got a 1st class honours degree in illustration and he is working on lots of projects but has still found time to come to Wychwood to teach you to draw. We think Ashley has illustrated Erica's Elephant and The Bookshop Girl beautifully. He does have a secret though, come along to this event and ask him where he works!
The Bookshop Girl
This story is about a little girl named Property Jones, so-called because she was left in the lost property cupboard of a bookshop when she was five years old. Property loves living in the bookshop, but she has a whopper of a secret, she can't actually read! So Property doesn't see the newspaper article announcing the chance to win the Montgomery Book Emporium, the biggest and most magnificent bookshop in the world! When her family win the competition, Property finds herself moving to the Emporium, a magical place filled with floor upon floor of books and a very bad-tempered cat. But all is not at it seems at the Emporium and soon Property Jones finds herself in a whole heap of trouble.
Sylvia and Ashley will be delighted to see you at their event where you will be spellbound by their amazing and hilarious storytelling and illustration! Everybody welcome!
