Idlewild
Dave’s Stage (Main Stage), Friday 2016
We’re excited to announce that Scottish indie rock heroes Idlewild will be playing at Wychwood. Many of you will remember Roddy Woomble, from his amazing solo set at the festival a few years ago, so it’s great to welcome him back, this time with the rest of the band! Formed in Edinburgh in 1995, Idlewild have 20 years of music under their belts, having released seven albums. Their latest release, Everything Ever Written was released in 2015 to critical acclaim.
The band strike a balance between edgy indie and softer melodic pop sounds, allowing them to grow a cult following whilst gaining success and mass appeal. The band were once described by the NME as the sound of a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs
, yet they are best known for sing-along anthems, such as singles You Held the World in Your Arms, American English and many others. Influenced by bands such as Pavement, R.E.M and Blur, Idlewild have become a defining band of the era.
